Can you get financial advice for free in the UK?
Free impartial guidance is widely available. A personalised regulated recommendation is different and will usually involve a fee.
Free guidance can help you understand the options
MoneyHelper provides free and impartial money and pension guidance. Guidance can explain choices and help you prepare questions, but you remain responsible for deciding what to do.
Regulated advice makes a personal recommendation
A regulated financial adviser collects information about your circumstances and can recommend what they believe is suitable for you. If regulated advice turns out to be unsuitable, complaint and compensation routes may be available.
A free first meeting is not the same as free advice
Some advisers offer an initial conversation without charge so both sides can decide whether to proceed. Ask whether any recommendation is included or whether the free meeting is only an introduction to the service.
Guidance first can make paid advice more efficient
If you are still learning the basics, free guidance can help define the problem before you pay for personalised advice. More complex or irreversible decisions may justify regulated advice earlier.
