Level 4 vs Level 6 financial adviser qualifications
Level 4 is commonly associated with the professional qualification threshold for retail investment advice. Level 6 routes represent more advanced study, but neither replaces checking real specialist experience.
What does Level 4 mean?
The CII Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning is an RQF Level 4 qualification and is designed to meet FCA qualification requirements for retail investment advisers. Other awarding bodies offer equivalent appropriate qualifications.
What does Level 6 mean?
The CII Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning is an RQF Level 6 qualification and forms part of the pathway to Chartered Financial Planner status for eligible members who meet the wider requirements.
Does Level 6 automatically mean a better adviser?
No. It demonstrates more advanced study, but it does not show communication quality, client fit, practical specialism or whether the service is good value for you.
Use qualifications as one evidence point
Compare the qualification, current SPS where relevant, regulatory status, specialist experience and normal client profile rather than turning a credential into a universal ranking.
