Guide · Choosing an adviser
How to find a financial adviser near you
Start locally if face-to-face advice matters, but shortlist on fit rather than simply picking the nearest firm.
Start with the advice need
Write down why you are looking for advice before searching names. Retirement planning, business wealth, inheritance and protection can require different experience.
Create a local shortlist
Search your city or town and nearby areas, then remove firms whose normal client type, minimums or specialisms do not fit.
Check the firm and adviser
Use the FCA Register and official contact information before appointing anyone. Do not rely only on a search-result profile or review site.
Compare more than one option
MoneyHelper recommends creating a shortlist and asking advisers for quotes. Compare service, restrictions, fees and specialist experience before deciding.
