Guide · Client fit

Do I have enough money for a financial adviser?

There is no universal amount you need before speaking to an adviser. Different firms serve very different client sizes.

Why minimums vary

Some firms are built around ongoing investment management and set asset minimums. Others offer one-off advice or serve clients with lower assets. The service model often explains the threshold.

Ask two separate questions

What is your minimum asset level? This tells you whether your assets fit the firm's proposition.
Do you have a minimum fee?A cash minimum can make a percentage-based service more expensive at lower asset levels.

One-off advice can widen the options

Someone who does not fit an ongoing wealth-management minimum may still be able to buy advice for a specific decision from a different firm or service.

Being accepted is not the same as being a good fit

Ask whether clients at your asset level are normal for the adviser. A proposition designed around a very different client size may not offer the best value or experience.
